REVIEW: Yoplait Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, Lucky Charms, and Trix Yogurts

Yoplait General Mills Cereals Yogurt Cups

I admit I am an uncreative snacker. I’m not the sort of innovator who finds new uses for familiar products. A loaf of bread does not inspire sandwiches or (gasp!) recipes; I’m likely to eat it slice after dry slice.

Okay, my snacking habits are not that dull, but I am still grateful for products that do the thinking for me. Yoplait General Mills Cereal Yogurts fall into this category, pairing low-fat flavored yogurts with crunchy cereal toppings. Varieties include Cinnamon Toast Crunch with cinnamon vanilla yogurt, Cocoa Puffs with vanilla yogurt, Lucky Charms with vanilla yogurt, and Trix with strawberry yogurt.

Each container comes with a lid that separates the cereal from its yogurt companion. The lids contain about 1/4 cup of cereal, with the total product size weighing 4.27 ounces. (For reference, a standard single serving container of Yoplait yogurt is 6 ounces.) As a light snack or meal accompaniment, they are the perfect size.

I tried all four varieties:

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Yoplait Cinnamon Toast Crunch Yogurt Cup

This variety gets extra points for the cinnamon vanilla yogurt. I couldn’t find the flavor referenced on Yoplait’s website, so I believe it is unique to this line. At first glance, it looks like plain vanilla, but it has a hint of mellow spice and tastes like Cinnamilk. The texture is smooth but a little watery — a trend that will follow with the other varieties. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch neither dilutes nor overwhelms the yogurt’s cinnamon flavor, all while maintaining its perfectly crunchy texture.

Cocoa Puffs

Yoplait Cocoa Puffs Yogurt Cup

Another solid pairing, this variety is like an elevated bowl of Cocoa Puffs because the cereal’s cocoa flavor does not overshadow the mild vanilla yogurt. Both flavors are discernible when eaten together. The yogurt itself is smooth and refreshing, but loose-textured.

Lucky Charms

Yoplait Lucky Charms Yogurt Cup

Although the vanilla yogurt in the Cocoa Puffs and Lucky Charms varieties have identical flavors, the serving in my Lucky Charms cup was considerably thicker and creamier. Texture-wise, it was the best of the bunch. Did someone at the yogurt factory switch the texture setting from “meh” to “mmm”? Is Lucky’s magic responsible? The mascot elf’s cereal bits and marshmallow pieces provide a sweet crunch to this product, but the overall flavor profile is a little, well, vanilla.

Trix

Yoplait Trix Yogurt Cup

This variety is the least successful due to the strawberry yogurt, which lacks flavor and is so thin that it turns to liquid in the last bites. The little strawberry flavor I detect clashes with the Trix’s artificial fruitiness. Even the Trix Rabbit might pass on this one.

Yoplait General Mills Cereal Yogurts offer convenience and a decent flavor variety for consumers looking for a quick, tasty treat. Of course, you could easily achieve your own preferred flavor and texture combinations with a box of cereal, a tub of yogurt, and the right portable storage containers. But when your cereal goes stale and those containers warp in the dishwasher, these cereal yogurts will be here for you.

REVIEW: The Artist Marshmello’s Limited Edition Coca-Cola

Marshmacoke1

Coca-Cola has been around for 136 years, which is no easy feat. Those years haven’t always been smooth (New Coke enters the chat), but they have generally adapted to the market’s taste changes. It’s no mystery that younger folks are drinking less traditional soda than previous generations. Taste shifts coupled with the sheer amount of choices available have made soda companies readjust their approach, and the new Coca-Cola Creations division aims to bring younger people back to the brand.

Coca-Cola Creations was launched in early 2022 with its first flavor: Starlight. Not long after, we got a second entry into the Creations Canon with BYTE. The third release is different from the other two in many ways. The Artist Marshmello’s Limited Edition Coca-Cola tells you right on the can what to expect: Watermelon Strawberry Flavored Coke.

Even though the previous flavors were left a mystery, I think they wanted to avoid people misreading the can and thinking it was marshmallow-flavored. The joke’s on them because I did that anyway. While scanning the almost all-white can, my brain absolutely assumed it was marshmallow flavored. I would also imagine this was because I read Marshmello as marshmallow.

Marshmacoke2

A well-known electronic music artist/producer, Marshmello is easily identified by his signature helmet that looks like a Lego head painted white with black “X” eyes and a smile. I am painfully out of the loop with popular music but know a few songs he’s collaborated with. All this to say, he’s popular with younger people, so teaming up with him for a limited edition Coke seems like the right move.

From the skinny white can, came a strong sweet berry smell that was so familiar to me, but I couldn’t place it. Pouring it into a cup, I was shocked to see the color of regular Coca-Cola. Based on the flavor description, I thought the color might be lighter or reddish. My first taste brought a crashing wave of recognition. The flavor was very strawberry/berry up front, with the smallest tang of classic Coke on the back end. The taste is, to me, very reminiscent of Pepsi Blue.

Marshmacoke3

Unlike Pepsi Blue, the sweetness is pulled back with this drink. I think that is because Coke is not as sweet as Pepsi to me. While I absolutely loved Pepsi Blue, I wish this wasn’t quite as similar. The lack of discernible watermelon was disappointing, and the strawberry overpowered any other flavor that might have been present. I’m curious how the Zero Sugar version compares taste-wise and if the watermelon might be more present.

The Artist Marshmello’s Limited Edition Coca-Cola is an interesting offering that I think will do well with its target audience. It has a “drink of the summer” vibe that I don’t feel we’ve seen yet this year. I enjoyed it overall but wished the watermelon flavor was more present. I was looking forward to a new and unique flavor but ended up with the answer to a question I hadn’t asked: What if Coke made Pepsi Blue?
