REVIEW: Cheetos Crunch Pop Mix

Cheetos Crunch Pop Mix Bag

What is Cheetos Crunch Pop Mix?

If you have tiny panic attacks trying to decide which popped or fried processed corn snack you want to buy at the grocery store, Frito-Lay has swooped in and made things worse with another option — Cheetos Crunch Pop Mix. As a follow-up to 2020’s Cheetos Popcorn, the popped corn has a new corny best friend that goes by the name of Crunchy Cheetos.

How is it?

I won’t lie, when I first saw the announcement of this product, I thought it was kind of dumb, but this cheesy mix SMACKS. I’m a bigger lover of popcorn than I am Cheetos, and I don’t buy regular Crunchy Cheetos very often, but this serves as a great reminder of how satisfying the classics are. The bag is loaded with cheesy seasoning (cheetle) and is as beautifully luminously orange as ever.

Cheetos Crunch Pop Mix Closeup

In general, Cheetos are a solid snack but can be kind of heavy and greasy when eaten in large quantities, no matter the flavor. The popcorn acts as a perfect companion to the denser, greasy Cheetos. It allows for a full-on salty and creamy snack spiral without the heftiness.

It’s a fun textural juxtaposition to have two totally different types of corn with the same seasoning. They taste and feel pretty different but maintain the intense glowing cheesy symphony that builds as I crunch and crunch and crunch.

Anything else you need to know?

I would love to see a bag with Cheetos’ classic cheesy and spicy flavors combined. Perhaps incorporating Cheetos popcorn with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos for an addictive back and forth.

Conclusion:

This simple little snack surprised me, and if you like the salty cheddar explosion from Chester, there’s no way you won’t enjoy going for a cheesy dive into Crunch Pop Mix.

  1. “Gross, no thank you.” I despise regular crunchy Cheetos with the fire of a thousand suns! Jalapeño Cheddar Cheetos, on the other hand, are INCREDIBLE!!!!! I’ll stick with those. I do like the Cheetos cheese popcorn, so I can easily mix the two, if I want, and now that I’m thinking about it, I do want. 😀

  2. Is it a fairly even mix of Cheetos and popcorn? The picture makes it look like a lot of popcorn with a few Cheetos sprinkled in, more so than I would expect even if there should be more popcorn if they each provide 50% of the weight.

Even factoring in popcorn’s lighter weight per piece, seems a bit pricey for 2.75 ounces, so, while your review made me want to give it a try, I might wait to see if it’s on sale.

    1. I would say it’s probably a 60/40 of popcorn to Cheetos! The Cheetos are heavier so they sink but there are quite a bit in there!

      1. I’d go a bit lower, maybe 70/30 or 80/20. When I opened the bag, I only saw one crunchy Cheeto in a sea of popcorn. I thought maybe the Cheetos had settled to the bottom of the bag, being heavier, but there were still several instances where I pulled my hand out of the bag with nothing but popcorn.

  3. I tried it, and I’d never buy it again. It was far from an even mix, which caused an unexpected problem when eating. Cheetos are easiest to eat one at a time because you need to be able orient each one so it points into your mouth if you don’t want to leave a huge mess on the floor. Popcorn, on the other hand, is easiest to eat in small handfuls. This would have worked far better if they’d paired it with something small and round, like a cheese ball. Another really odd thing I noticed is that it feels like there’s a distinct temperature difference between the Cheetos (which felt slightly cold when I put them in my mouth) and the popcorn (which felt the same temperature as my mouth. It also really makes it obvious that bagged popcorn is essentially stale popcorn, so you’re also interspersing random crunchy bits with stuff that offers almost no resistance to chewing…and is full of popcorn hulls.

Replace the crunchy Cheetos with cheese balls, or the popcorn with regular Cheetos, and this might be a noteworthy product. As it is, I don’t expect it to be around a year from now.

  4. Too much popcorn!! Not a mix at all!! I won’t be buying it any longer!! It’s not a mix it’s frickin popcorn and it’s not even that good!! Too bad I love Cheetos !!!
