REVIEW: Pop-Tarts Mister E Flavor

What is Pop-Tarts Mister E Flavor?

Pop-Tarts is rolling out its first-ever mystery flavor, and since it’s really into humanizing its products lately with hair, eyewear, and backstories, we have Mister E — a mustachioed investigator in shades who’s hellbent on cracking the case of who broke into the Pop-Tarts factory to create this new flavor. Vigilante P.I. tracking down off-hours criminal pastry enterprises. Mmmmkaaayyyy…

How is it?

The aroma in the package didn’t give much away, but the filling was white, so I started thinking coconut. But the second I bit into Mister E Pop-Tarts, the word BUTTER shot through my brain. They were sweet and savory in a really strange way – both tastes were competing for the spotlight. Maybe they were Terrible Buttercream Frosting flavor? I had to drag someone else into the mystery – their guess was swiss cheese. Now when I re-tasted, that seemed closer – a mild cheese flavor. But it still felt wrong – a wrong guess AND a wrong flavor to exist in the world.

There’s a related contest website where you can get clues and enter your guess to win prizes. I’ve figured out the flavor based on the clues, and I will say it’s NOT any of the guesses above. But I’ll let you make the call…

Anything else you need to know?

These were very crumbly and started falling apart the moment I opened the foil wrapper. Once toasted, they broke into large and small pieces that promptly fell into the unreachable crevices of my toaster (ugh). I hope Mister E can solve the mystery of how to get melty, funky Pop-Tart crumbs out of small appliances.

Conclusion:

Not the best Pop-Tart flavor I’ve ever tried – in fact, maybe the worst, but I loved trying them! This is exactly what mystery flavors should be – the questionable stuff we definitely wouldn’t buy if they called it what it is.

  1. Sounds like it could be a cheesecake flavored poptart? Or a coconut creme? Some artificially flavored coconut stuff I’ve had before tastes like butter for some reason. I’ll have to give them a try with my family when I see them.

    1. Yeah I’d imagine it’s cheesecake but the “swiss cheese” worries me about the taste XD.

    2. I was thinking when I tried it today I didn’t like it but what I think it is, is it’s like a chive and onion tasting like it’s definitely got like an onion flavor to it

      1. Yes! That’s how it tasted to me. I was excited to try it this morning and it was a mistake ?

  2. You have given these the most generous review I have seen yet. Based on the dried onion and garlic powder , my guess would be in the realm of something pizza-related. It is difficult to fathom that these will wind up being a regular flavor.

You say that and yet give it a 7 out of 10
Everyone knows you are lying there especially since review after review is basically rating this product to be the worst pop-tart flavor EVER

      1. Nothing on this website seems to get a low review anymore.

Not that you can easily tell, because they took the rating out of the header tags for some blasted reason.

  3. What is funny, Family food dude on YouTube said there was a sour cream and onion vibe so it probably is more on the savory side but I’m good on eating this. LOL

  4. Could you please share the clues? My phone doesn’t do AR and I haven’t seen them locally yet.

    1. “Two halves make a whole, but there’s still a hole.”

I assumed that there would be two different clues: one on each lens of his glasses. However, I received the same clue (Clue #5), when scanning each of them.

Given this clue, I’d have to say that Greg, below, is right (or at least on the right path). Definitely bagel-related…which, agreed, is definitely unusual for Pop-Tarts. Having said that, being the savory-leaning person I have always been, frankly, I welcome a non-sweet flavor. Not to mention, I am big on food innovation, so appreciate the originality and creativity behind this. So…yay, cool on them, IMHO!

    1. I’m fine with that, IF they leave off the sugar. Take away the frosting and just make it plain.

    2. they say everything bagel is supposed to be the right answer but it tastes like mac and cheese to me yuckiest thing i have tasted in a long time .. they definitely got me for 2.49

  5. Everything Bagel/Bagel Schmear Flavor most def. Or maybe just plain cream cheese? IDK.

  6. This review, as well as the guesses in the comments, have to be some of the most unsettling talk about a Pop-tart I’ve ever heard. I wish I’d seen this before I bought a box, lol. *goes to bury my box in a deep concrete lined hole*

  7. My husband, my sister and I think they SMELL like ranch dressing but TASTE like some kind of frosting or icing mixed with ranch dressing. Odd I know, but that’s what we experienced.

  8. The poptart mystery flavor has a weird taste. I keep getting like an onion taste. French onion dip flavor for a pop tart? Not very tasty.

  9. I wasn’t even paying attention to the box when I grabbed them this morning. I was hungry and running later than I’d like… get to the checkout and realize they are mystery flavored. No biggie, probably some kind of cupcake flavor, or fruity flavor. I get to work get settled and open a package to eat…. OH MY GOSH! I wanted to kick a puppy! These pop tarts are terrible. I couldn’t get the taste out of mouth all day!! They were so bad I can’t even decide what they tasted like. 7 layer dip? Garlic and cheese? I have no idea… but ?.

    1. same thing happened to me at work and i threw it away and had to buy something sweet. who wants a savory poptart let alone cheesy garlic flavor ? bleaah

  10. You 100% spoke untruth by saying getting a free box didn’t influence your decision. Buying (2) (wish I’d got none now) boxes of pop tarts thinking it’s some mystery berry flavor kiwi, or banana, or something weird but still sweet and delicious only to bite in and nearly puke… I hate onions with a passion… The only food I don’t like …. Who ever would have thought I’d have to check my poptarts for onions. Highly dissatisfied with this and the fact I spent money in these insta trash items makes me livid. If there was any sort of warning that it was a savory thing or anything that made me check the ingredients not to cheat a contest (which I wasn’t interested in just wanted a fun new flavor) but to see that onions were in the product….. I’d be far less livid. It’s not something you can spring on someone completely unaware. And the taste just cakes your mouth after a bite and won’t go away. I’ve brushed and ive chugged water and soda. If it was free I’d say terrible but at least I didn’t spend money. I’m convinced you got paid to report so highly on these based in all the other reviews I have read to see if anyone else was as ticked as me.

  11. My poor granddaughter. This was supposed to be a treat. She said it gave her the ‘throw-up’ face twice when she tried them. She even told her mommy that her breath was really bad this morning because it was making her Poptart taste funny.

  12. My nephew Hunter tried one and said quote “It was deeee-sgusting. Emphasis on the D!! I guess I would say try at your own risk.

  13. Getting a free sample obviously influenced your review… if you had paid for these abominations you would be mad as hell. If you really did enjoy them enough to give them a 7/10 then your taste buds are obviously shot and your reviews are suspect. I know the flavor is most likely “everything bagel”, but everything bagels actually taste good and no one I know smears frosting on one. This is what losing a bet tastes like.

  14. Taste like crap! Very disappointed! When you said they were I’m thinking it’s going to be blueberry strawberry or cinnamon or some other flavors they have not something like this it taste like something like onions or garlic! Definitely not cream cheese or vanilla frosting!!!

  15. Horrific! Mostly get garlic in a bad way. Even my boys thought they were disgusting. 0/10 all the way. Total impulsive buy hoping for a new “lets buy more” flavor. Killed that for any future mystery flavor buyer!!! Bad move Pop Tarts!

  16. When I saw the clue “Two halves make a whole, but there’s still a hole.”
I instantly was like oh yum donuts well I was wrong that sucked.
    Also WTF?
You said, “Not the best Pop-Tart flavor I’ve ever tried – in fact, maybe the worst.” Then give it a 7/10.
While if you go to the pumpkin flavored ones you say, “One of my top 10 favorite Pop-Tarts,” and then give that a 7/10…..
Like you just made your rating along with your review have no value now because the worst and one of the best are in fact the same in your opinion.

  17. Just bought them for my daughter to try for fun, knowing they could taste bad. My daughter said they tasted a bit like chicken pot pie lol. I’m not sure, but I think I’m going to agree it tasted a bit like a microwave chicken pot pie.
