REVIEW: Dairy Queen Cinnamon Roll Centers Blizzard

Dairy Queen Cinnamon Roll Centers Blizzard Cup

What is it?

Dairy Queen’s Cinnamon Roll Centers Blizzard is the Co-September Blizzard of the Month (along with the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard) and also part of the Fall Blizzard Menu. This one has soft cinnamon roll center pieces with brown butter cinnamon topping and DQ soft serve.

How is it?

I’ve never met a Blizzard that I didn’t like…until now. I thought this new flavor might be good after reading the description, but I was wrong. Very wrong.

I think we can all agree that the center is the best part of a cinnamon roll. To me, the center part is wonderful because it’s soft, gooey and decadent. But these pieces had a strange texture and taste. They were a bit gritty, not really soft and didn’t even taste much like a cinnamon roll. They just tasted like semi-sweet pieces of cookie dough.

And things did not get any better by avoiding the cinnamon roll pieces and just eating the ice cream with the cinnamon topping. I could tell the topping was in there because of the color, but it had only a faint cinnamon taste. This one was just disappointing all around.

Anything else you need to know?

Since this Blizzard isn’t particularly good to eat, perhaps you’d prefer it as a scented pillow? While the details are somewhat vague, the DQ website is promoting “The Fall Blizzard Menu Pillow Fight,” which is a collection of pillows that are supposed to smell like Blizzards. Most of the pillows appear to the standard square variety, but there’s also one in the form of a slice of pumpkin pie and another in the shape of a cinnamon roll. The website says to check back on September 7 for more information on how to order, or maybe win a set as there looks to be a sweepstakes component to this promotion.

Conclusion:

Dairy Queen Cinnamon Roll Centers Blizzard Digging

I’m guessing I’ve had at least 100 varieties of Blizzards over the years, and this might be the first one that I didn’t not finish. It’s just not good. But I will happily forgive DQ for this dud considering all the delicious Blizzards I have previously enjoyed.

  1. Thank you, you just saved me 660 calories. I don’t often stop at DQ, but this sounded enticing…until this review. Thanks for saving the rest of us the disappointment.

    1. i tried it last night and found it to be really good. I’m not a fan of cookie dough pieces and the cinnamon roll consistency was very similar. I did find the ice cream to be pretty good with whatever they use for the mix with the vanilla soft serve. I’d personally give it a 7.5/8

      1. Yeah the brown butter cinnamon topping blended with the vanilla soft serve was the best part. I liked it more than the new Oreo Hot Cocoa Blizzard and the new Snickers Brownie Blizzard. Hell dare I say I even liked it more than the highly popular pumpkin pie blizzard. I would also rate it like a 7.5 or so… I wish they would’ve brought back the caramel apple pie blizzard and added it to their fall blizzard menu. That’s my favorite blizzard flavor of all time.

  2. I had the same sentiment as well with this dud of a blizzard. Left me cold but not from eating it. Its in my freezer still with only 2 bites taken. I also was like yes, cinnamon roll center nice and fluffy with some ice cream here i come! They were not fluffy or nice, but like some weird dough bites that were gritty and odd texture in my mouth. Its a big pass here…

    1. Typically the center of a cinnamon roll is really doughy as opposed to the fluffy outer layers…so it sounds like they nailed the cinnamon roll centers.

  3. wild, i just tried this over the weekend and i LOVED it. the cinnamon roll pieces were soft and tasted exactly like cinnamon roll, not like cookie dough at all. it’s strange how the experience is so different… personally this is in my Top 5 Blizzards of all time

  4. To me it’s more like a snickerdoodle cookie dough blizzard than cinnamon roll blizzard but it’s still very good.

  5. The cinnamon roll pieces were like chewy tasteless pieces. Nothing cinnamon roll about it. I thought maybe I got a bad one at first.
