What is it?

Like last month’s Oreo Firework Blizzard, the Reese’s Outrageous Blizzard is a copycat of the candy that shares its name. August’s Blizzard of the Month combines peanut butter and caramel topping in vanilla soft serve with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Pieces — but not the eponymous candy bar.

How is it?

The Outrageous is a dream come true for my accordion-necked alien induced addiction to Reese’s Pieces. The peanut butter-flavored soft serve is appropriately brash for a treat heralded as outrageous, and the extra saltiness it brings is complemented fantastically by the sweeter caramel.

While the base is full of leguminous goodness, what really had my heart Skippying a beat is the addition of Reese’s Pieces. Broken bits of crispy shell provide the crunch that famously enamors wrinkly extra-terrestrials. The sweetly coated candy’s classic taste is amplified by the caramel and peanut butter infused vanilla ice cream.

Sadly, the less numerous Cups are crowded out. There are enough to impart a needed chocolate vibe, but it lacks the pronounced punch one expects from Reese’s Cups. To the Outrageous’ credit though, every spoonful includes a large, if imbalanced, amount of candy.

This is an iteration on 2017’s Reese’s Extreme Blizzard where chocolatey topping is swapped out in favor of caramel. As peanut butter and chocolate will probably be found on my death certificate, I am shocked that I love the Outrageous whereas I was underwhelmed by yesteryears not so extreme take on Reese’s. I guess the more accurate Reese’s Satisfactory Blizzard didn’t have the same ring to it.

Conclusion:

If you need a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup fix, stick with the classic menu mainstay. If on the other hand you love Reese’s Pieces or peanut butter in general, then the Reese’s Outrageous will leave you phoning home to tell all of your friends about it.

What is it?

Reese’s-flavored “Dairy Whipped Topping,” because “whipped cream” wasn’t enough of a mouthful.

How is it?

On paper, this is a great idea. The can is inviting. The image of peanut butter cream surrounded by a rainstorm of Reese’s cups only elicits happy feelings, so why is this so bad?

It’s an aerosol-style can with a nozzle, so I hit it from the source first. That’s where all the fun lies.

It’s “dairy whipped topping” so you can imagine the texture, although this is even airier than I expected. The flavor hints at it, but at no point did I feel like I was ingesting a Reese’s product.

I normally complain when something like this is too sweet, but it’s barely sweet at all. There is a light lingering peanuty flavor. Not only that, the cream basically remains at room temperature no matter how long it’s been refrigerated. I had it in the fridge all day, and it was still lukewarm at best.

If you like unappetizing peanut-flavored foam, I guess this is for you.

Is there anything else I need to know?

I could instantly tell there was no way this would hold its flavor when used as an actual topping. To test the theory, I went with chocolate pudding. The already faint cream flavor was dwarfed immediately. It did nothing to enhance the pudding.

I imagine any ice cream would easily wash out the “Reese’s” flavor.

Conclusion:

I like the thought, but Hershey dropped the ball. They need to ramp up the sweetness if they want this to be a viable topping choice.

After taking a few more rips from the can, I had a flashback to my days chugging little white half and half cups off diner tables. While I laughed at my younger, dumber self, it made me sick to my stomach.

Just sprinkle some other Reese’s product on your ice cream and forget about this.

Reese’s new Outrageous Bar is like a Reese’s Nutrageous Bar.

Wait. You don’t know what a Nutrageous Bar is?

Well, I can understand why. It’s a candy bar that gets lost in the Reese’s universe that’s full of peanut butter-filled treats with different sizes, shapes, fillings, and chocolates.

For those who don’t know, the Nutrageous Bar features peanut butter, caramel, and peanuts (hence the nut- prefix) coated in chocolate. And now that you know about it, you can forget about it because the Outrageous Bar, which swaps the nuts with mini Reese’s Pieces, is the candy bar you should remember.

I’ve had the Nutrageous Bar several times and it doesn’t have the same pull as a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. But then again, few candy bars do. It lacks an adequate amount of that signature Reese’s flavor. It’s one of those products that makes me wonder why it born in the first place because I’m 99 percent sure that if someone wants a Reese’s fix they’re going to reach for the peanut butter cup or Reese’s Pieces.

Speaking of the candy-coated candy, this isn’t the first time Hershey’s has stuffed Reese’s Pieces into something else. The company added some into the filling of a peanut butter cup a few years ago. It’s a good candy, but I feel the Reese’s Pieces only provide texture and their flavor gets lost in the sugary and salty filling of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. But with the Outrageous Bar, the smaller candies are in the forefront of its flavor and texture.

I know in the photos it looks as if there’s no advertised peanut butter or caramel, but if you look closer at the photo…

BOOP YOUR NOSE, you’ll see a skinny layer of peanut butter that boosts the flavor of the many Reese’s Pieces, but without overpowering them. Despite a high level of peanut butter goodness going on, the chocolate coating cuts through it and creates that coveted chocolate and peanut butter combo. As for the caramel, there’s a thin layer in the bar that gives it a bit of gooeyness, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference taste-wise. Although the caramel doesn’t come through, it’s still a sweet treat.

Reese’s Outrageous Bar Stuffed with Reese’s Pieces is a great candy bar. With a nice one-two peanut butter and chocolate punch and a crispiness that the Reese’s Pieces’ candy shell provides, it’s a candy bar worth remembering.

Good Humor Reese s Bar

Who is this Good Humor Man I always hear about?

Growing up, my neighborhood had a Good Humor truck, but the man inside looked like he hadn’t smiled since the Carter administration. His icy demeanor definitely matched the goods he was peddling. Despite the awkward interactions, his sweet siren song never failed to boost my adrenaline levels to Herculean heights. Besides, as unfunny people like myself will always tell you – good humor is subjective.

Now while I was usually a WWF Superstar bar, candy cigarettes, Pixie Stick, and Warheads kid, I did get the occasional Good Humor ice cream bar.

Strawberry Shortcake always seemed to be the popular choice. My mother used to buy boxes of them from the supermarket, and while they’re classics, my choice was always Toasted Almond. (Chocolate Éclair was great, but a distant third and I’ve never had Cookies and Cream.)

I haven’t had one of those babies in ages, so when I saw Good Humor had a Reese’s bar on the market, it was like hearing the Good Humor truck song all over again.

These certainly look the part of a Good Humor bar. I was excited about the prospect of the chocolate and peanut butter crumb exterior, as that was always my favorite part.

I plucked a few crumb pieces off and tasted them individually. They weren’t bursting with the Reese’s flavor I was hoping for, but no big deal. I trudged on and went for a bite.

The look of the ice cream itself was a bit uninspiring. It has a very light khaki color, that resembled cake texturally.

As for the flavor, the ice cream was not nearly as peanut buttery as I had hoped. Not only that, I felt the chocolate almost took a bit away from the already weak peanut butter.

The crumbs enhanced the experience a bit but weren’t as crunchy as I remember them being back in the day. They almost added a “stale” element to the bar to be honest. My memory could just be off here, but the bites felt less satisfying.

Look, you slap the name “Reese’s,” on anything, and I’ll enjoy it. I’d brush my teeth with Reese’s toothpaste if they felt inclined to make it. The Reese’s brand has never let me down, until now.

These aren’t very flavorful. They’re boring – I mean, pretty good boring, but boring.

These bars are one step above eating those healthy ice creams that people on diets pretend is good but actually tastes like ice you chip off the wall of an old freezer.

I’m disappointed a Reese’s product didn’t live up to my standards. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll probably still enjoy these, but I see no reason to recommend them. They’re middle of the road but aren’t better than the Good Humor OG’s. They’re not better than any other Reese’s products, and they’re probably not better than any other peanut butter item in the frozen section, so really, why bother?
